Nanotechnology-Based Formulations: Potential Candidates to Unlock the Door of the Second Green Revolution in Agriculture: A Review on Prospects and Progressions
Keywords:
Green Revolution, Nanotechnology, Agricultural Productivity, Nano-BiosensorsAbstract
The early 1970s was an era of immense agricultural development in which enormous productive improvements were inculcated. The agrarian world has been revolutionized by efficient irrigation tools and crops with high agronomic vigor and productivity. Fertilizers have led to a complete paradigm shift toward sustainable agricultural development. However, climate change, silviculture, and ever-exceeding world populations have put food security at risk, and the world is looking for a second green revolution. Nanotechnology involves using a set of tools at the nano-scale in the form of nano-based agrochemicals and biosensors, even those with genome-modifying properties, which can prove to be catalysts for promoting a second green revolution enhancing agricultural production, which is ever urgent. In this review paper, the role of nanotechnology has been assessed, success stories have been shared, and recommendations for nanotechnology-based research on agriculture have been presented, which will assist and provide directives for young researchers.
